The papaya (Carica papaya) is a tropical tree, growing in the hot, humid regions of Central and South America, South Africa and South East Asia. This plant has many names but the most popular one is considered to be its Caribbean name “papaya” since the Europeans first discovered this fruit exactly on the Caribbean Islands. The papaya fruit is highly appreciated because of its high content of vitamins, minerals and trace elements. The ripe fruit is usually eaten raw, without the skin or seeds. After being processed with sugar and in sulphur dioxide solution for preserving the product qualities, the papaya is dehydrated with hot air. Dehydrated papaya is offered in various sizes and colors. |
